I've also often heard that classical music can be classed as "Metal without the amplifiers", so when the worlds of classical and metal are combined in unison, if done correctly have a devastating and mind-blowing effe

Having relentlessly toured the UK alongside the likes of Black Peaks, Sven, The King Is Dead, Pagan, etc. and playing a plethora of festivals, with this year being their second consecutive year on the bill at Cheltenham's 2000Trees, my good buddies in Phoxjaw are going from strength to strength and becoming an unstoppable force destined for greatness.  I've been following these guys for a while and have had the

Body Harvest - Parasitic Slavery

Key Facts Country: 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Genre: Death Metal/Grind Release Date: 13th May 2019 Record Label(s): Comatose Music Highest Chart Position: N/A Band Members: Jake 'Mettle' Ettle-Iles - Guitars, Vocals Gareth Nash - Vocals, Guitars Dan Shaw Odell - Bass  Will Pearson - Drums  Review Rating (out of 5🤘): 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 Favourite Track(s): Hierarchy Of Grief, Parasitic Slavery, Consumed By Tyrants, The Prophet I remember seeing these guys live, in the tiny upstairs room at the infamous Gryphon in Bristol, I think it was 2017's Gryphest and it was one of the most brutal performances I have ever seen. Relentless from start to finish. I remember it also because I had my kidneys smashed into the bar during the pit, but by my logic it's not a gig unless I've been battered about to some extent, I digress. Anyway, I've been waiting for this album for a long time, ever since I heard 2016's Futile Creation (which is equally hec

Bethlehem - Lebe Dich Leer

Image
Key Facts Country: 🇩🇪 Genre: Black Metal, Doom Release Date: 17th May 2019 Record Label(s): Prophecy Productions Highest Chart Position: N/A Band Members: Jürgen Bartsch - Guitars, Electronics, Synths, Bass Yvonne "Onielar" Wilczynska - Vocals Ilya Karzov - Guitars Florian "Torturer" Klein -Drums Review: Rating (out of 5🤘): 🤘🤘🤘.5 Favourite Track(s): Niemals Mehr Leben, Wo Alte Spinnen Brüten, Dämonisch Im Ersten Blitz, Aberwitzige Infraschall-Ritualistik A harmonious mix of synths, doom and black metal, mysterious, ominous and foreboding with every second. Lebe Dich Leer is a dark, raw and beautifully crafted album that twits, turns and contrasts with every passing section yet carries this evil funeral march feel all the way through, a demonic funeral march that is. There is definitely more of a focus on the doom and cleaner elements within Bethlehem's music on this album, when compared to it's predecessor 20

I have not been disappointed at all. RAMMSTEIN , feels like culmination of six previous studio albums with the best parts from each cherry picked and packaged into one. It's equal parts experimental and typi

This new single has passages and riffs (while not as fast or angsty) that are reminiscent of 1999's Slipknot and 2001's Iowa , which can only

The first full length album from Possessed in 33 years, Revelations of Oblivion , is a blistering traditional death metal album that answers the age old question, "what would Lemmy sound like if he sung in a death metal band?". Straight away Jeff Becerra's vocals make this album stand out, the gritty growling scream-grunt technique he has mastered will make this an instantly recognisable as a Possessed record, despit

Kampfar - Ofidians Manifest

Image
Key Facts Country: 🇳🇴 Genre: Black Metal Release Date: 3rd May 2019 Record Label(s): Indie Recordings Highest Chart Position: N/A Band Members: Dolk (Per Joar Spydevold) — vocals Ask (Ask Ty Ulvhedin Bergli Arctander) — vocals, drums Ole (Ole Hartvigsen) — guitar Jon (Jon Bakker) — bass Review Rating (out of 5🤘): 🤘🤘🤘🤘 Favourite Track(s): Ophidian, Dominans, Natt Earth shattering and relentless Kampfar have released a ball breaker of an album brimming with brutality and atmosphere in equal measure. It definitely inspires a rage and bloodlust and a need to wage war on the next unsuspecting victim that innocently wanders into my patch of dark and evil forest. If there is one thing that I can compare this album to is Myrkur's 2017 release Mareridt  but on a viking dosage of steroids. With the majority of it being sung in Norwegian (which as you know by now that I love it when bands sing in their native language) for me gives the music

Amon Amarth - Berserker

Key Facts Country: 🇸🇪 Genre: Melodic Death Metal Release Date: 3rd May 2019 Record Label(s): Metal Blade, Sony Music Highest Chart Position: 16 (iTunes Album Chart) Band Members: Olavi Mikkonen − lead guitar Johan Hegg − vocals Ted Lundström − bass Johan Söderberg − rhythm guitar Jocke Wallgren − drums Review Rating (out of 5🤘): 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 Favourite Track(s): Raven's Flight, Shield Wall, The Berserker at Stamford Bridge, Fafner's Gold, Valkyria Raise your horns and hail the Berserker! From start to finish I was plunged into the Scandinavia of old riding across the sky with Thor looking down on the battles below. This definitely feels like a step up musically for the band. The incorporation of acoustic sections, I feel, makes the album flow better and give it a real atmosphere of storytelling. From what I get from the mini-documentary below the band really took their time to make sure everything was perfect for this album and it c

Granted it's been a while since I listened to Northlane but yet again they have shown me why they are a phenomenal power in progressive metalcore and why I need to go back to them. One thing I love about Northlane is they never settle, every release has been different yet still consistent with the Northlane sound. Bloodline offers a lot of contrast and layers working dynamically with each other to create a ball busting, face screwi

Vanaheimr/Fjordhammer - Update 2nd May 2019

Image
Update - 2nd May 2019 Hello everyone! It's been a couple of months that I've had this blog up and running and I definitely enjoy writing for you guys. I have had countless ideas that I have expanded and added too as well as stripping some back. I have a few things to cover regarding Vanaheimr mainly, as EP III is starting to move along again, after being put on hold due to various other "real life" commitments. The reviews will still be coming in, with Amon Amarth, Kampfar, 1349, Rammstein, Vader and a whole load more are releasing albums this month, so there's a lot to keep me busy!  Anyway, Vanaheimr EP III is starting to regather momentum again. As a mentioned in the 28th March Update   that I was exploring lyrical themes, they are now starting to come to fruition as the inspiration slowly starts to creep in and I can confirm that lyrics for two out of the six songs are now completed. As much as I want to record the vocals for these tracks and get

With  Pantheon Of The Nightside Gods officially puts Belzebubs on the scene with devastating effect, after leading single Blackened Call graced us with it's presence last year. Musically,  Pantheon Of The Nightside Gods is an equal mixture of black, death and symphonic metal sounds alongsi
