You feel connected with the gods of old and the album stirs up an unbelievable urge in me to reconnect with nature and the environment around me. Drawing on a multitude of historical and cultural influences this album lives up to the bands 'Amplified History' ideology. With Heilung meaning healing this album definitely relaxes your spirits and helps you shut off from the real world for a few moments. Using a Proto-Germanic/Norse language is something I'm not stranger to hearing but the way Heilu

Bringing their distinctive and unique amalgam of extreme, melodic, aggressive music and in depth exploration of concepts surrounding death, history and mythology to unleash hell once again. I first heard of Necronautical whilst watching a documentary on British black metal and I was very impressed by their sound and imagery. If it's one thing that the English can do well it's create this impending sense of doom in the most gothic of settings and  Nihil Sub Sole N

This is the sixth album from the Wrexham sextet, packing a wealth of songwriting and compositional experience to rival any other symphonic black metal band out there. Many have drawn comparisons with Cradle of Filth in the bands early releases but  Embrace The Godless Aeon  is a complete contrast to those earlier records and is a fire breathing monster in its own right

The Miscellaneous Goings On Of Tom - Stockholm Syndrome

Reflecting On The Week Well, what a week for my musical ventures it has been! My review of Svatan's Blazing Winds Of Transcendence  being shared by the band bringing so many new Brazilian readers with it and then Vanaheimr's Pagan being featured on DJ Crusher's Scrap Metal Show via Metal Messiah Radio was quite a surreal feeling (click here to see the video on my Facebook). Just in time for my new single release on the 21st! It just reminded me that the hard work I'm putting in now will pay off later, it's also quite mad knowing you created a song in your bedroom that has now had airplay on an international radio, goes to show that the DIY musician/songwriter/producer is going to be a big thing in the future music industry with all the access we have to reasonably priced recording equipment and software. In all this reflection I've also been deeply missing the wonderful city of Stockholm. I spent two weeks there last October and I just fell in love with

Its definitely been a good year for deathcore so far with Whitechapel, Carnifex and now Thy Art putting out awesome albums/singles and proving why they are all still top of their game. While Whitechapel have experimented with their sound Thy Art have stayed true to their roots and demonstrated the quintessential deathcore sound to deva

Alissa White-Gluz Review Rating (out of 5🤘): ðŸ¤˜ðŸ¤˜ðŸ¤˜ðŸ¤˜ Carnifex are back with an all destroying new single  No Light Shall Save Us , featuring the awesome Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy. I remember seeing Carnifex as part of the Impericon Never Say Die! Tour way back in November of 2016, they shared the bill with some bands you might have heard of; Whitechapel, Thy Art Is Murder, Fallujah, Obey The Brave, Make Them Suffer and Polar. It was a phenomenal night, and I just remember Carnifex crushing the stage under their blackened deathcore weight. They'd released sixth album Slow Death i

I felt tense listening to

The Miscellaneous Goings On Of Tom - Riffing It Down To The Devil's Sound

A Short but Elaborate Introduction Now that Fjordhammer has got a decent following, I thought it'd be a good idea in my infinite wisdom (which is not very infinite) to give you an insight as to what goes on in this wandering mind of mine. Various thoughts and perspectives on various subjects within music and just generally what the hell I'm doing. As you can tell already this is going to be the more informal section of the blog where I write exactly what my mind is processing at the very moment I write a post. I'll still be doing Vanaheimr/Fjordhammer updates focused mainly on just that, so don't think that this will replace that, no no, this is literally the wanton ideas and ramblings of a very mad musician! As you can see in the photo I've selected I'm very often away with the Fairies (or should that be spelt Faeries?  I digress) and often look like a bit of a dork but it's something I take pride in. My imagination is very vivid so it makes it very

I've always felt that black metal from the Latin American countries have a lot more edge to their albums in this modern age of black metal. Mainly due to the fact that Catholicism is still a

Gastir is an equally strange and interesting album, that incorporates black metal with haunting synthetic atmospheres and Viking style chants to create a very obscure album indeed. With this in mind, it certainly makes me feel like there is an ancient Norwegian presence in the room with me as I listen to it! The word WYRD derives from and Anglo-Saxon concept roughly corresponding to fate or personal destiny, with all the recent

Another awesome album from the black metal legends, a consistency that we've grown to know and love from them. While Darkthrone do whatever the fuck they want with their music, no matter how far away they go from their roots, it always sounds like Darkthrone,  Old Star is no different. It brings the darkness, doom an evil through hypnotic and crushin

Krzysztof Drabikowski's Батюшка - Панихида

Key Facts: Country: 🇵🇱 Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal Release Date: 26th May 2019 Record Label: Sphieratz Production Highest Chart Position: N/A Band Members/Production: Krzysztof Drabikowski - Everything Батюшка - Песнь 1 Review Rating (out of 5🤘):🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 Favourite Track(s): ÐŸÐµÑÐ½ÑŒ 1, Песнь 3,  ÐŸÐµÑÐ½ÑŒ 4, ÐŸÐµÑÐ½ÑŒ 7 As many people are saying, and I agree with them, this is the rightful successor to Litourgiya . Everything from its songwriting to it's production contains everything that makes up Батюшка.   Krzysztof Drabikowski has made yet another masterpiece of a black metal album, packed with atmosphere and massive riffs. Despite this I am interested in what Bartłomiej Krysiuk puts out with his version of Batushka, but I doubt it will match this. I am in awe of Drabikowski's songwriting and production, now I've heard Песнь 1 within the context of the rest of the album,  Drabikowski created the perfect intro to a phenomenal piece
